I don't do this very often. I am going to re-post a blog that I wrote earlier this year. It is titled:

The Best Investment: Gold, Silver or Food?

On one of the networking sites that I belong to, someone posted this question: Is investing in Silver a good thing to do? If there were some kind of natural disaster, would I be able to spend my silver or gold at the local grocery store? I would like to share some basic examples with you and let you be the judge.

The average price for an ounce of silver is $27.93. The price for an ounce of silver increased by 27% in 2010.

The price of gold increased by 30% in 2010. The average cost for an ounce of gold peaked in November of 2010 at $1,431.

Last year, the average cost of living increased by 8.1% nationwide. This was what was reported on October 25, 2010. I don't think most of us who are working at our current jobs experienced that much of an increase in our paychecks. Did you?

Let me share a few examples of just how much the cost of living actually increased based on the cost of some basic foods.

The cost of corn went up 45% during the last 3 months of 2010.

The cost of for a dozen eggs went up by 11%.

This year, the cost of meat is expected to rise 3.5%. Dairy is expected to rise by 5.5%. The cost of fruits and vegetables is supposed to go up as well, but not as much as meat and dairy prices.

Did you know that in the year 1933, at the height of the Great Depression, the US Government, under the "Gold Confiscation Act" confiscated gold money from its citizens and replaced it with paper Federal Reserve Notes? What's to say that our current government wouldn't considering doing something similar?

I have heard it said from more than one source, that some time during the next 5 years, the value of the dollar will decline rapidly causing the prices of food, gas and other goods to rise dramatically. It is already starting to happen.

4 Things EVERY prospect wants to know.

This blog was inspired by a recent training that I attended by Dani Johnson.

Before most people get involved with a new business, there are 3 things that they want to know:

1. People want to know if something that is being promoted or shared with them is simple. Is the business that I am looking at simple to do? Is it simple to understand? Is it simple to promote? Simplicity is the key to getting people involved in any business. It is also the key to keeping them involved.

2. Does the compensation plan, product or service work the way that they are explained in the information that I have reviewed? This is why product testimonials are so important when marketing products, companies and services. This is why it is essential that before you begin promoting a business, product or service, that you become a product of the product. Does this make sense to you?

3. People want to know if this is a company, product or service that "I" can promote. Promoting a company, product or service is not about what you are capable of doing. It is about your prospect and what they are capable of doing or willing to do. Which leads us back to the previous steps.

My Mandura Miracles

I suffer from chronic migraines. Sometimes up to 8 in any given month. This has been going on for the better part of 7 years. Most of the time they are hormone-related. Usually about twice a month they are so bad as to put me in bed in a very dark room for at least half the day. Are you in charge of your life?

I just finished listening to a very inspirational webinar put on by the company that my husband and I are involved with. Add to that, I am feeling inspired and empowered by Chris Gardners' latest book, Start Where You Are. He is the author of the book Pursuit of Happyness. He is also the person behind the movie of the same name that starred Will Smith. That story is about one year in his life. It was a turning point for him.

Everyone makes decisions on a daily basis that will ultimately determine where they will be in the next week, month, year, decade, etc.

So, my question to you is, "Are you in charge of your life?" Are you doing the things that you love to do? Or the things that you have to do just to stay alive?

Do you determine what time you will start work at your job? Or does your boss? Do you have job security? Yes, you do today; but what about tomorrow? I have lost count of the number of businesses that have been around for 20 years+ that have gone out of business or that are going out of business within the last year.

Will you be able to retire when you are 65? Or will you have to work part-time just to cover your medical insurance or pay for your prescriptions?

I have been working for a local charity for 6 years. The growing trend that I have witnessed first hand is that when husbands retire; wives go back to work. Why? Because in most cases, the women are younger and their husbands' retirement benefits are not keeping up with the high cost of living. Are you one of those individuals? Do you honestly believe that you will be taken care of when it comes time for you to retire? Do you believe that the government is going to bail you out?

I have read it more than once in the last year, that the only people that are guaranteed financial security are those that own their own businesses. However, to get started in most businesses you need to invest several thousand dollars and then in over 90% of those situations, the company you start will go out of business. What then, is the solution?

Network marketing is just about the only business model that is thriving in an economy like this. You have to be careful in choosing one to get involved with. There are a lot of scams out there and quite a few of them do not cost a lot to get started with.

To set the record straight, network marketing is not a "pyramid scheme." In a pyramid scheme, the operative word is "scheme." No product is being sold. You earn money just on the concept of getting other people to make an investment; there is no residual income involved. The guy at the top earns most of the money. In my opinion, that is a small part of what the traditional corporate structure is about. The guy at the top earns all the money, while the people at the bottom work like slaves to help him earn his millions.

Network marketing is an area where my husband and I have a TON of experience. You do not need to invest a lot of money to get started in most network marketing companies. Usually $500 or less. Most of them have excellent products, although in a good number of cases they are over-priced and you could just as easily purchase similar quality at your local retail store. More often than not, only about 5% of the people who join these companies will ever achieve an income that they can retire on. What about the other 95%?

I have a few questions for you. Most home-based businesses have great products. However, from what Allan and I have witnessed, most home-based businesses are plagued by compensation plans that benefit the company and its executives. The distributors are often the losers.

Last year we decided to write down exactly what we believed the perfect home-based business would have.

My husband, Allan and I have been investigating home-based businesses for nearly 2 decades. I decided to create a list of some of the things that most Scams have in common. 1. Scams usually promise that you will become rich over-night without any effort on your part. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

2. Scams do not post phone numbers that you can call and talk to to a real person during normal business hours. You will usually get a recording or a number that you can call to place an order but not actually be able to make contact with anyone at the company.

3. Scams do not usually offer a product or service. Their product is usually the purchase of the system to make money.

4. Scams usually cost a lot of money to get started, but not always.
Usually, it is a one-time purchase with no opportunity to earn a residual income.

5. Scams will never promise you or give you a money-back guarantee on their product or service if you are not completely satisfied.

As always, READ the fine print on any contract or policies and procedures BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. A lot of people DO NOT do this and usually wind up regretting their decision.

First of all, I am not a sales person. I have never been good at face-to-face sales. From the training that I have received with Mandura, here are a few things that I have learned that an MLM company NEEDS to be successful. Use them as your own personal checklist to evaluate your own company or future MLM business.

I will try to keep this brief.

The #1 thing on this list is Leadership. Does the company that you are affiliated with have good Leadership? I don't know about most of you, but I can honestly say that I LOVE TO SNACK! I usually get cravings for sweets like chocolate. I can not live without peanut butter. I have actively been using the internet to network for a couple of months. It has been a REAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE. Once again, when you first start out, you get a lot more information than you could ever possibly comprehend, much less put into practice. There are as many resources available to help you network on the internet as there are people using them. It is all VERY OVERWHELMING.

Fortunately, I catch on fast. At least that's what my friends tell me. Let me give you some basic rules to follow. This is not just for internet marketing but marketing yourself to others as well.
Especially if you find that you are in need of an income because of being down-sized, or any other tragic circumstance that is likely to occur.

Rule #1. People do not care about how much you know until they know how much you care! Let's face it. We are all selfish whether we want to admit it or not. We really don't care about offers from you. We are just trying to tell you about our offers. We want you to purchase whatever product or service we are offering because we know it is the best thing to come along since "home-made bread." Other people feel the same way that you do about their own business or service. So, how do you show people that you care about their offers or services? It's simple. You ask them. Be sincerely interested in their programs and they will become sincerely interested in yours.

Rule #2. Most of the population believes that network marketing is a SELLING BUSINESS. A good friend and mentor has informed me otherwise. Network marketing is a TELLING BUSINESS. If you have to sell someone your services or products, odds are they are not going to stay very interested for very long. When you tell them about your business and how it can HELP them in ways that they need, they are more likely to trust you and then get involved with what you are promoting. NONE OF US LIKE TO BE SOLD ON ANYTHING. We like to sell ourselves.

Facebook is not just for kids anymore. It is an excellent place to advertise your business for free and network with other people who have similar interests. Look for your friends or find a group of like-minded individuals to develop friendships with. Remember to be genuinely interested in who ever you develop a relationship with.

http://www.twitter.com is a tremendous resource once you learn how to use it. It's not just for blogging. MLM-How to choose a compensation plan

Previously I discussed what to do before choosing a home-based business. Now I would like to give you a few things to look for in a compensation plan. (Make sure the company you are considering offers a legitimate product at a reasonable price.)

1. Is it easy to understand? Can you understand the requirements to earn compensation without hiring an interpreter?

2. Is it clear how much you much purchase in order to earn compensation on your downline? Are there several ways to earn an income? (Through retail sales of the product, fast-start bonuses, long-term residual income on your downline, etc.)

3. Does the compensation plan reward the part-time marketer as well as the full-time marketer? Most people who get involved with an MLM company are part-timers looking to get started earning an income so that they can eventually replace their full-time income from their J-O-B's.

4. Is it a balanced leg, binary system? This is by far the most difficult compensation plan to understand. When you have to a certain amount of retail volume or sponsor someone to purchase a required amount before you can earn any commission.

5. Is there a point system involved? Which for me does not make any sense at all. The amounts should be clear in dollars not points. This is equally as confusing in most cases as the binary marketing plans.

6. Expandable matrix compensation plans would be the ideal situation. I believe these plans can create laziness on the part of most, because they expect their uplines to do the work, while they earn a check. Plans should be beneficial for all involved. Although it can be a good tool to motivate people to do their part to help their downlines once they see an income coming in through no effort of their own.

Once again, there is a lot more I could include, but I believe this list covers the most common types of marketing plans.

I don't entirely agree. There a certain things the average person needs to consider BEFORE getting involved with any home-based business. I would like to share a few of them with you.

1. What is the actual cost of getting involved with the company? Not just the product, but the advertising that comes along with any business you decide to promote.

2. Is there a legitimate product involved that you simply can not live without? Is it reasonably priced?

3. If there is a sponsor involved, do you trust him or her? Are you willing to be trained by them
and honestly believe they have your best interests at heart?

4. If you are doing business with a company, is there a phone number you can call and get your questions answered by a "real person?" This is critical when determining if the company is legitimate or a scam.

5. Is the company a member of the Better Business Bureau?

6. Does the company have an actual mailing address and not a post office box? Most legitimate companies have a mailing address.
